Be Present In Your Calling

Have you been wandering through life unsure how to get that growing desire in your heart to jump out and show up in your life? It is your passion, undeniably it is your gift, but it isn’t present in your life. We toiled with those ideas in I Missed My Calling, Now What? Not only have I missed my calling, but my life is a mess! Called people have more wisdom than I do.  They have something figured out, and I’ll never get there.  I stepped in gum this morning, dripped coffee on my tie, wore mismatched socks, put on the wrong shoes for this outfit, ran over a screw and got a flat tire and was supposed to sign a big client, but showed up late. Who am I kidding? I’m a mess! How could I possibly be Called? In final article in the series and we will look at what it means to be fully present in life so that we don’t miss our Calling.

Have you heard that little voice in your head, the one that acts as your conscious? Maybe it is the one you talk to in the bathroom mirror as you get ready for the day. It might be the angel on one shoulder battling with the devil’s negative self talk on the other shoulder saying I am not good enough. Perhaps it is something bigger.  What if your maker is using the ordinary mess of your life events to bring into focus something awesome for your life? Wake up, sleepy head, wipe the sleep out of your eyes, and feel with your heart, what you are Called to do. Too much life has passed, it is time to be present in your Calling.

The amazing feeling that makes you come alive, get giddy, puts that pep in your step, the one that raises your blood pressure and makes your hands clammy is possible for your life.  You can’t be anything you want to be, but you can be who God made you to be. I’ve been trying this theory for the last three years. I really enjoy sewing, it is a favorite past time for sure, but it isn’t what God had in mind for my life. It seemed to fit and it is an area of giftedness, but not the right one He imagined for me. I put so much effort into making it work, but it fit like a pair of shoes that rubbed a callous on my foot when I wore them. See it almost fit, it should have fit, I wanted it to fit, but it had a rub that wouldn’t go away. So, I asked to see myself doing what He wanted me to do. Almost immediately the answer the answer came–“Write.” Since embracing that calling my family tells me I am happier, more relaxed, and more carefree. I am astounded by the awesome feeling that drives my days, my nights, my life. These shoes are made for walking, everywhere because they finally fit right.

When you show up with the passion and potential that He whispers into your life, fasten your seatbelt. It is like riding the Goliath, the Superman, or the Voyage. Have you ridden any of the world’s scariest roller coasters? Hopefully you won’t barf. It is going to be the most thrilling ride of your life. The invitation is here, your name is written in metallic gold calligraphy. Don’t miss the big moment. Answer it! Embrace it! Show up! Be present in your Calling.
