Why Blog?

Today begins a new writing challenge that may propel me to something better than I’ve ever been. It is a short-term trial with the possibility of something great. Is it worth the effort? Is it possible as a profession? Why blog?

Then I considered “My Fight Song,”

Like a small boat

On the ocean

Sending big waves

Into motion

Like a single word

Can make a heart open

I might only have one match

But I can make an explosion

I haven’t been blogging long, but it is my life-blood. It is my escape from reality, and sometimes the only thing that keeps me sane. I have a voice, a particular niche of saying something differently than anyone else. Not everyone can be a Mr. Rogers kind of special, but we all have a different approach to life, and my approach is my voice. Sometimes blogging pulls me back from the brink of insanity. It helps me recenter myself after a rough day to assuage the guilt and all things that went wrong while liberating my soul for a new day. I am that small boat on the ocean, sending big waves into motion. My voice is prepared to make an explosion.

Not long ago, I decided to go all in for blogging and writing. It is exciting exploring content, and finding my voice, so the opportunity to use my skills and have a professional author personally mentor my efforts is an immeasurable reward. So, this is the moment, this is the day to send all my doubts on their way. I feel timid, stepping out in this way, but I agreed to be all in; right? I hope that endurance, skills, desire and effort show up and shine through me to be chosen. The criteria is simple: Bring your A game, do the assignments on time, but beyond that the guidelines are muggy. The author chooses who he feels best completes the assignments and declares the winner as his protege. He has to want me.

Even if I am not chosen as the winner the skills attained will be helpful to catapult my writing to the next level, continue on my Freedom Journey, and aid my words to appear in publication.  Worth the effort?  Certainly, 100% yes, it’s only one week. Who cares if it is Spring Break for the kids? The days can be theirs, and the nights devoted to slashing cyclops, vampires, zombies, dragons, and avoiding their death touch. My daughter enjoys playing Magic the Gathering. I don’t grasp the concept yet, but my take away is that it is a better version of Pokemon. It is similar to Dungeons and Dragons I grew up playing. Learn the game during the day, and use the night to bring death to the demons that hold back my writing. It is time to fight.

Cue Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song.”

This is my fight song

Take back my life song

Prove I’m alright song

My power’s turned on

Starting right now I’ll be strong

I’ll play my fight song

And I don’t care if nobody else believes

‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me.

Next week my whole world will change if I am His protege or not, but this week I’m going to fight like I’m escaping the demons from the underworld, ’cause I’ve got a lot of fight left in me. Let’s go!
